No, you are still looking at it from the "fun" side. the one in power and has their target locked down. I speak of the locked down side. Why bother with the mechanic? You are locked down. Why waste time being a part of some circus seeing how much they get from your corpse? well then lets say failing a board gives the victim enough time to get away. so the guy being locked down has a glimmer of hope to escape. would that not be worth it to you? it would certainly change the tide of battle a bunch. katran -- agreed. that would be awesome ****. though, my original thoughts on this were influenced by pirates of the burning sea haha. that game is quite similar to eve in a lot of ways.
That sounds like a very vague thing and I don't see how you could make it work in practise. If you get locked down and boarded, you're likely ganged upon by multiple hostile ships and have no way to escape. Your ship would have to be made immune to everything while being boarded(hi abusable mechanic o/) and also afterwards, if the boarding fails. Otherwise the pirates will kill you, if they think the boarding attempt is likely to fail or the fleet holding you down will do it after the attempt has failed. You're also going to have to implement all kinds of griefin limitation mechanics to the system or just allow the victim to selfdestruct, making all that work largely pointless. None of these are good solutions and some are really immersion breaking and abusable. The details are everything here.
Equally importantly it is not fun for the victim in any scenario, since he has to sit there doing nothing while other people have fun playing the game at his expense. Drawn out boarding mechanics work better in single player games and NPC targets, but not on player controlled entities. For the victim you offer forced removal of control, boredom and almost certain death anyway because of attempted rule evasion by the hostile party. No one wants to be the victim of that let alone pay for the privilage and CCP certainly shouldn't waste their time on such things, unless someone can come up with a detailed plan how it all fits together and provides fun gameplay options for everyone. |
